5th Global Youth Employment Summit (YES Sweden 2010)
‘Rework the World’ June 2nd – 5th 2010
Youth Entrepreneurship and Sustainability

You know the ones. They get things done. Because they just know. They know what to do. They know how. Or come up with know-how. And they always know why. They get to what needs doing. We can envy their tenacity or hate their audacity, but for them nothing is beyond their capacity. They don’t care if you don’t care, if you don’t get it, or don’t even see them. But we do. Right now they are reworking the world. Because Earth is changing our world and what worked before, works no longer. They are rewiring power grids, restoring ground water, rebuilding buildings, releasing energy from wind, wave and sun and rethinking how everything connects with respect to nature. They are reworking work itself. We can believe in them, we can invest in them, but not for one second can we ignore them. Your children, our grandchildren, all of us need them more than anyone. They see the only future left and they will make history creating it.

YES 2010 – a world summit for 2000 entrepreneurs and change agents in Dalarna, Sweden 2010

Rework the World is an open initiative for change into sustainability, developed by the YES Inc, with its youth led networks in fifty-five developing countries, and Tällberg Foundation, with its high level global networks of decision makers.

Our vision is, by 2012, to have engaged two million young people in new meaningful work through financially and ecologically sustainable enterprises and green employment opportunities. Rework the World sets a new standard of interaction across sectors, cultures and borders.

The effort builds to the 5th Youth Employment Summit, June 2nd-5th 2010 Dalarna, Sweden. This is an outcome oriented four day Summit where 2000 entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders will gather from across the world and across generations.

Let us create future we want

This initiative will take us towards the future we want by:

Identifying the very best concrete ideas and ventures through six regional Rework the World workshops across the globe, (Tanzania, China, India, Chile, USA and Europe)

Connecting these concrete ideas with the necessary resources, such as key local and regional stakeholders, potential partners and investors in order to multiply, duplicate or scale vibrant initiatives

Persuading leaders and established institutions/politicians to think differently and engage them in the dynamic change to tackle the ecosystems crises.

There is a widening gap between what we know and what we do

The roots of the economic and ecosystems crises are institutional failures. Local institutions are rendered powerless in the face of a truly global problem. Leaders in business and politics struggle to act decisively in a landscape of uncertainty and interdependence. Young people will pay the price for this as they grow up into a world of increased political, economic and environmental instability and conflict. We have an urgent duty to close this gap and attract people with concrete ideas and inspire youth around the world in the effort of change by celebrating and communicating strong, good examples that work.  Our focus must shift towards concrete ventures, real tasks, essential outcomes, and dynamic people worldwide must be meaningfully engaged.

We know enough. It is time to act.
