Dear YES Family
The YES Campaign is 5 years old, and YES Inc. is one year old…taking giant leaps and baby steps at the same time…thank you all for believing in us.
This has been a year of growth and assimilation. I first want to thank Janet Whilta, and Ismail Serageldin for continuing to believe in YES, and fostering our growth. Janet by becoming the first YES Inc. Board member, and Ismail by hosting the YES mid-campaign team meeting in Alexandria, Egypt. In this our first year the Board members have played an extraordinary role in helping us become sustainable, and guided us ably through difficult times…helping us navigate through the birthing process of YES Inc. – Thank YOU!
No thanks for 2007 will be complete without acknowledging our Board member - Akhtar Badshah for his generosity and guidance.
2007 has been the turning point for YES – we are now an independent non-profit, we have an extraordinary and supportive Board , committed YES Campaign Committee, a strong Advisory Group, engaged leaders in 55 YES Network Countries, and tireless YES staff.
This newsletter is a special one because it highlights our achievements in the global, regional and country level in year 2007. It is comforting news since it reassures us through evidence that the YES Campaign is moving from strength to strength despite our challenges. This success is wholly due to our YES Leaders on the ground level in our 55 YES Network countries.
I want each of you to know that we want to work with you to fulfill your vision of a world without poverty framed under the leadership of young people.
It can be done! It must be done! It will be done!
YES Alexandria Declaration 2002
In Solidarity

Our Challenge – consider this:
- There are over one billion young people between the ages of 15 - 24 years, out of which 850 million are living in developing countries
- Estimates project that over the next three decades the global labor force between the ages of 15 - 24 will increase in sheer numbers by another 1.2 billion. Most of this growth will be in developing countries
- One of the greatest challenges facing the world is to generate productive work opportunities for the young people in developing countries
- Out of 6 billion of us, 1.3 billion live on less than a $1 a day, and 3 billion under $2 a day
