Events Youth summit to discuss jobs, livelihood Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Oct. 20 AS many as 1,000 youth delegates from 22 countries in the South and South East Asia will congregate in the State Capital of Andhra Pradesh for five days, beginning December 14, to discuss the issue that bothers them most - the issue of livelihood and employment opportunities. The Hyderabad YES (Youth Economic Summit) is the first regional edition of the decade-long campaign, which seeks to achieve Six Es - employability, employment creation, entrepreneurship, equity, environmental sustainability and empowerment for the youth. Launched in Alexandria (Egypt) last year, the campaign aims at putting on the global developmental agenda the issue of providing livelihood for the youth, who constitute more than 50 per cent of the world's population. Announcing the Hyderabad summit here, Mr Tammineni Seetharam, Minister for (Prohibition and Excise) and Chairman of the Conference Committee for the summit, said Indian delegates would form 40 per cent of the total delegates. He said the Hyderabad summit is aimed at setting a regional stage for engaging key stakeholders to promote, create and support employment and youth livelihood programmes in the region. "It provides a platform for networking among participants and helps build partnerships for tackling the unemployment problem," he said. The summit will review and take concrete actions on the commitments and action plans pledged at the Alexandra Summit. The conference will focus on ICT (information, communication and technology), rural development (on-farm and off-farm), water and sanitation and renewable energy. The agenda comprises five YES Country Network Strategies, five case studies and ten workshops on `sector-specific opportunities.'
