PYALARA

PYALARA or the Palestinian Youth Association for Leadership and Rights Activation is a small NGO based in Jerusalem and aims to galvanize Palestinian youth into recognizing and addressing the most pressing concerns of their society. The Global Youth Network project supported the initiative of PYALARA to look at the problem of drug abuse amongst Palestinian youth and to train a core group of youth reporters on covering drugs related news for their youth newspaper.

2004 Awards for Action on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights

The Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network and Human Rights Watch are calling for nominations for the 2004 Awards for Action on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights, intended to highlight outstanding contributions that decrease vulnerability to HIV/AIDS and protect the rights and dignity of those infected and affected.

Recognizing excellence and long-term commitment to work having a direct impact on HIV/AIDS and human rights issues – in particular work that is of direct relevance to marginalized individuals and communities – an award is presented annually to one Canadian and one international recipient.

Nominations are invited for both individuals and organizations (from Canada or another country), working at the community, national or international levels, whose work has directly contributed to HIV/AIDS and human rights issues.

Global Junior Challenge, Youth Empowerment: A challenge for a better world, Rome 2003/2004

The Global Junior Challenge is a global award promoted by the Digital Youth Consortium, a non-profit organization founded by the Municipality of Rome and six major ICT companies. The intention of the award, dedicated to young people and to schools, is to identify and reward best practices on the use of new technologies in education and training of youngsters. An international jury selects the finalists and the winners are announced during the award ceremony that takes place in Rome, at the Campidoglio City Hall, in Autumn 2004.

Dubai International Award for Best Practices for the Year 2004, October 2004, Dubai, the United Arab Emirates

Dubai International Award for Best Practices was established to improve the living environment within the international conference on best practices held in Dubai in 1995. As a result of four successive award cycles in 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002, currently there are over 1600 good and best practices from 140 countries featured on the best practices database. The purpose of these awards is to recognize and enhance awareness of outstanding and sustainable achievements in improving the living environment as per the basic criteria established by the Habitat II Summit in 1996 and the Dubai Declaration.
