Delegates from throughout Latin America met in Asunción on the 19-21 of September to renew their fight against youth unemployment. The event was hosted and promoted by the Government of Paraguay and the YES Latin America Regional Coordination with the organization of the YES Paraguay Network.

2. YES Colombia Network Joins Forces with the Jamaican Embassy to promote Tourism in the Department of Sucre, Colombia
The YES Columbia network is working closely with the Department of Sucre, Columbia to train its youth in tourism-related proficiencies so as to build capacity to attract and serve tourists. This has been a collaborative project with active support from the Jamaica Embassy and other stakeholders.

3. YES And UNIDO Explore Ways to Promote Youth Employment through Renewable Energy Technologies
The UN Industrial Development Agency (UNIDO) recently sponsored two Expert Group Meetings (EGMs) in collaboration with the YES Campaign on the development and promotion of youth entrepreneurs through renewable energy technologies. Both meetings, one in Nairobi, Kenya, and the other in Cuernavaca, Mexico, brought together key regional actors to discuss possibilities for engaging youth in entrepreneurial activities either through the use of in the renewable energy technologies or in the sector itself.

4. Thousands drawn to the YES Campaign in Bhutan
In October, 2005, the YES Bhutan Network organized two musical shows featuring in-country budding artists as a way of spreading the word about the YES Campaign. These non conventional meetings with widespread appeal were enormously successful.

5. YES Philippines Coordinator Awarded Youth and ICT Award by Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP)
Congratulations to Ms. Audrey Codera, for winning the prestigious Youth and ICT Award in the 2005 Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) Awards. Ms. Codera is the Executive Director of Philippine Youth Employment Network (PYEN) and Country Coordinator of YES Philippines Network,. The Youth and ICT Awards recognized eight young social entrepreneurs from different regions of the world who have transformed social development opportunities into a sustainable social enterprise through innovative use of information communication technologies (ICTs).

6. YES Guyana Encouraging Entrepreneurship in Guyanese Schools
Twenty four students from three city schools in Georgetown, Guyana are currently engaged in a youth employment initiative through which they will learn business management skills. This is part of the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme Program being carried out by the YES Guyana Network (YESGY) through its host agency, Volunteer Youth Corps (VYC). The project targets in-school youth ages 14 to 15, to raise awareness around the unemployment issues facing young people and to promote entrepreneurship as a first choice of career.

7. YES Mauritius Network Embarks on the 2nd phase of its Mentorship Program for Young Entrepreneurs
Moonera Kalla, a 21-year old business owner and participant in the Mauritius Youth Entrepreneur Mentorship Program, says, “I wouldn’t have been able to market my finished product if not for my mentor.” This laudatory statement clearly demonstrates the critical role that a professional mentor can play in forwarding the success of a young entrepreneur.

8. YES Rwanda Lays the Foundation for Youth Employment Programming
Youth unemployment is one of the major pressing challenges in Rwanda with more than 100,000 young people entering the labor market yearly and only 12,000 jobs created. Whilst there has been some growth in the tourism, transportation and services sector, substantial investment is needed to ensure that jobs are created rapidly to respond to the massive employment needs.

ASHOKA is a global network of leading social entrepreneurs who with their indomitable will and fixed determination are promoting innovation that society needs to tackle its toughest problems.
