AUGUST EDITORIAL: World Program for Action

I am excited to announce the dates for the YES Kenya 2006, September 13– 16, to be held in Nairobi.  I want to thank the President of Kenya for recognizing the urgency of tackling the youth employment issue and placing it firmly on the global agenda.

Today August 12, is International Youth Day and the focus is on “Making Commitments Matter."  As a mother, I believe that what matters most is that our youth have productive work and they become concerned and good citizens of their nations and the world. Together with you, we at the YES Campaign have been committed to ensuring that we create the human and institutional infrastructure to make this commitment real.  This is happening on the ground through our YES Country Networks.

5. Building Capacity:  Experiences of the YES Country Networks in Southern Africa

Young people in the Southern African region face enormous changes and challenges.  Responding to the emerging social and economic trends that these changes and challenges produce calls for an ongoing adaptability.  It also requires continual reflection and evaluation of one’s capabilities and shortcomings in order to successfully develop and deliver programs for youth.  While implementing development projects can be a daunting undertaking, the YES Campaign believes that it is a necessary and worthwhile undertaking in achieving our goals.
