YES2002 launched the Youth Employment Summit Decade Campaign of Action to promote youth employment internationally. Objectives of the Summit included solidifying partnerships, seeking media attention and alignments, creating public awareness and placing the burning issue of youth unemployment on the global agenda.
The Alexandria Youth Employment Summit saw the launch of
the
Framework for Action a framework on implementing
Effective
Practices that promote youth employment during the
Decade Campaign of Action More specifically. The Framework
for Actions was built upon "four Es" outlined by the Youth
Employment Network as being the four top priorities for
all national action plans: employability, equal opportunities
for young men and young women, entrepreneurship and employment
creation. The YES Campaign has added two additional
Es as adopted in the Alexandria
Declaration: environmental sustainability and empowerment.
The Alexandria Declaration
was developed and adopted by Ministers of Youth and Ministers
of Employment who participated in YES2002 and a commitment
made by all delegates at the Summit. This commitment signifies
the importance of collaboration between government officials,
civil society organizations, the private sector, international
development agencies and youth in the launch of a Decade
Campaign of Action.
